We shoot blog photos in our neighbourhood of Birkenhead a lot – the weather here in Auckland is so changeable that we’ve found most of the time it’s just not worth travelling too far from home! Consequently we’re always working our way round our local cafes to refuel; Craig especially needs at least a coffee and a sweet treat to keep trucking through the day! One of our favourite places to go to really hit the spot is Bloom, aka the ultimate cupcake heaven! Read all about this magical place (and find a special discount code) after the jump.
Come on in to where there’s beautiful cupcakes galore! Founder Ann took a break from her corporate job and started Bloom a few years ago as a creative outlet that also utilised her sharp business skills. Fast-forward to 2018 when Bloom is now an award-winning store filled with the best cupcakes in town!
We were so delighted that Ann asked us to come and visit and take photos! The Bloom store is so pretty and such a lovely spot to hang out. The huge front window shows off all the incredible cupcakes, and I’m surprised Ann’s not constantly cleaning drool off the window from passers by! You step into the shop through a hot pink front door, which has all the classic flavours written on it. This perfectly matches the inside feature wall, illustrated with the Bloom crest featuring majestic lions and giant cupcakes. The rest of the interior is bright white, making for such a light and fresh feel to the store. If you’re stopping for a cupcake and a cuppa there’s cute chairs and tables with sweet pink floral arrangements for you to rest at; otherwise you can choose any combo of cupcakes to takeaway for later!
The cupcakes at Bloom draw you in by looking good; they’re so artfully designed and colourful! But it’s the taste test that confirms just how amazing these cupcakes are. I’ve tried a fair few cupcakes in my time and I can honestly say that Bloom cannot be beat. Bloom bake in small batches with the highest quality ingredients, as customer satisfaction is their goal! Seeing a large amount of frosting on a cupcake always makes me a little nervous that it’s going to be super sweet, but at Bloom their buttercream frosting isn’t overly sweet and balances so well with their vanilla or chocolate cupcakes that are perfectly fluffy and not too sweet either. And when you choose a cupcake flavour, they really do deliver on that flavour! For example, their Pineapple Lump cupcake really does taste like the cupcake version of one of New Zealand’s favourite sweets – from the chocolate cupcake, to the pineapple-flavoured frosting and gooey chocolate centre, to the Pineapple Lump itself nestled on top, the attention to detail and taste is second to none. Other mouth-watering flavours on offer include banoffee, chocolate mousse, lemon curd, salted caramel, strawberry sundae, and so many more!
If you live in Auckland and you love cupcakes then you’re in luck, as Bloom deliver all over the city! This can be for any number of occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, baby showers, or corporate events. Bloom will work with you on exactly what you need for your occasion and it’ll be totally unique! They also prepare the most fantastic cakes, like this super artistic chocolate caramel cake. Check out just a sample of the fabulous work they do right here.
Cupcakes can be purchased either in person or via Bloom’s online store. They start at $5 each if you’re popping into the bricks and mortar shop, and boxes of six (starting at $30) or twelve (starting at $60) can be purchased in multiples either in store or online, with prices depending on the level of decoration required. Ann has also been super generous in providing a special discount coupon just for my readers! If you enter the coupon code ‘missheroholliday’ at the checkout you’ll get 15% off your online purchase – what better excuse do you need to order all the cupcakes?!
A huge thank you to the always-lovely Ann and her husband Jeff for having and feeding us at Bloom! You can find Bloom in person at 219 Hinemoa Street, Birkenhead, or online via their website, Facebook, and Instagram pages. Warning – seeing their cupcake pictures will quickly induce drooling!
