Wearing a form-fitting dress is always daunting for me; I’m so used to wearing poofy skirts everyday that it feels so different! Any weight gain I have always goes straight to my lower tummy so it’s something I feel self-conscious about and I will shy away from wiggle dresses as there’s nowhere to hide. But if any dress is going to get me out of my comfort zone it’s one from Stop Staring, so I’ve donned their Alabama dress for today’s post!
Buying any clothing online can be scary, especially if it’s something that’s meant to hug your figure, largely due to concerns about sizing and quality. Luckily Stop Staring lets those fears fall by the wayside as head designer and founder Alicia Estrada is the ultimate fairy godmother when it comes to creating the best wiggle dresses around. Not only is the fit excellent, all styles are made ethically in the USA. After being blown away by their Uma dress it’s boosted my confidence to try another of their pencil styles with the Alabama dress.
I have been falling in love with rose prints lately and so the gorgeous blooms on the Alabama dress had me drooling. The bright red roses are on a solid black background, with the fabric itself being a polyester/cotton/spandex blend. The neckline is a gentle scoop at the front with more of a dip in the back. The back of the dress also features keyhole opening with a bow above it, which is just at the right height to expertly cover your bra strap. The length hits a couple of inches below the knee, with a back vent for ease of movement.
Many of Stop Staring’s dresses use their signature millennium fabric which has a good amount of stretch, but the fabric of the Alabama dress is a different blend and so doesn’t have much stretch, if any. I’m wearing my usual size XS, which in this style caters for measurements of 33-24-37, and so as these correspond with my own measurements almost exactly I found the fit to be like a glove. Because of the design of the bust area I think you could accommodate an extra inch or two there, though this wasn’t noticeable when I had the dress on. However if you are between sizes, especially in the hips, I’d recommend thinking about sizing up just because of the lack of stretch in the fabric. This is definitely a dress that hugs your curves and I felt like a goddess the whole time I had it on!
The Alabama dress isn’t currently available on the Stop Staring website, but you can purchase it from their stockists at Pippy or Unique Vintage. Between the two of them they have all sizes available, and both offer international shipping.
