If you’ve been following the SS17 releases from Voodoo Vixen’s latest collection then you’ll understand how much I swooned when I first saw the lookbook! Packed with fun and flirty dresses, super cute separates, and the incredible jumpsuits that they’re becoming famous for, it’s no wonder that these styles are flying off the shelves. I was lucky enough to choose two new Voodoo Vixen pieces to feature on the blog, the first of which is the Amber dress.
You don’t see a lot of electric blue around these days, which was something that made the Amber dress immediately stand out to me. It’s definitely an eye-catching and fresh colour, and gives your wardrobe an effortless pop of colour for summer. The floral sprays scattered throughout the print are really darling, featuring blooms of pink, orange, yellow and white that are great to bring out in your accessories.
The Amber dress is made of a light and breezy unlined polyester and features a faux-wrap V-neckline, pleating at the bust, and fluttering cross-over short sleeves. The skirt is knee-length or a little below depending on your height, and while not a full circle it does have plenty of volume. I was able to fit my Vivien of Holloway petticoat underneath for more of a 50s look, but with a single-layer petticoat or slip the Amber dress could easily look like more of a 40s style.
As Voodoo Vixen sizing traditionally ranges between S and XL and my usual size is an XS, I opted for the S. Per their size guide this should correlate to a UK8 with measurements of 34″-27″. For reference I am a UK6 with measurements of 32″-24″ so I did expect the Amber dress to be a little big on me, but it wasn’t overly noticeable. If anything I could do with putting a stitch in the bust as it did gape a little on me, but otherwise the fit was good – the waist was a little loose as well but not enough for me to be forced to wear the dress with a belt. The cut of the dress and especially the wide panel across the waist certainly makes the Amber dress a winner for a lot of body types.
Unfortunately the Amber dress is currently out of stock on the Voodoo Vixen website, but if you need it in your wardrobe immediately then fear not! It is still available at stockists such as Top Vintage (€59.95) and Clarence & Alabama (£35), and it’s highly likely that VV will be restocking later in the season as well.
