Daniel Wellington is the brainchild of Filip Tysander, with the goal to create watches with a minimalist and elegant approach. He was inspired by – you guessed it! – the real Daniel Wellington, a fellow traveller who wore his vintage watches on old NATO straps. Since 2011 the idea of designing classic watch faces with interchangeable straps has become a reality and a highly successful brand. In today’s post I’ll be giving you a taste of two timeless (oh yes, I went there) styles: Classic York and Classy St Mawes. Plus read on to find an exclusive discount code for my readers!
Classic York:
The York style is part of the womens Classic collection. It features an 18mm dark brown leather wrist strap with a crocodile texture. The face is the largest of the womens styles at 36mm, and it’s available in rose gold (which I’m wearing) or silver. The hours are marked with large gold lines, with smaller lines in between for every fifteen minutes.
Classy St Mawes:
The Classy collection is a daintier range, with each watch face measuring 26mm across. From this I picked the St Mawes style in rose gold (also available in silver), which has a 14mm caramel brown leather strap. This and the other styles in the Classy collection all feature Swarovski crystals to mark each hour which is a really sweet detail.
Without a doubt, both styles I’m wearing in this post (and all of the DW collections) are so well designed and so chic. They are a great final addition to any outfit because, really, they go with everything – beautiful enough to make a statement and yet not detracting from your overall look. As the wrist straps are leather they are a little hard to begin with, but with wear they easily soften to become super comfortable. The minimalist analogue design is also something of a novelty amongst today’s technology, adding a touch of vintage charm. Despite the larger size of some of DW’s styles, each watch is only 6mm thick, which means your wrist won’t be weighed down during wear.
You can purchase directly from the Daniel Wellington website, and they ship all over the world! I was surprised at how fast the parcels arrived (less than a week to New Zealand) and as DW ship with UPS then you will get updates at each step of the shipping process. The Classic York watch retails for $319NZD/$230USD, and the Classy St Mawes watch retails for $249NZD/$179USD, plus you can save 15% by entering the code ‘HOLLIDAY’ at the checkout. Each watch comes in a luxurious gift box to keep it safe, which also contains a teeny tool that allows you remove the current strap and change it for a new one if you so desire.
