Today I’m bringing the Donna dress from Voodoo Vixen to the blog! Voodoo Vixen is an East London-based label creating vintage inspired pieces in classic silhouettes for the modern lady. They use high quality fabrics in custom-designed prints to make sure you stand out from the crowd in the best way possible. I had been oohing and ahhing over their SS16 range since I first saw the designs on their Instagram feed, so getting to sample it is a dream come true! PS – look out for a special treat at the end of this post.
The Donna dress is 100% cotton and features a classic and flattering Audrey-style shape with cutouts at the neckline. The A-line skirt falls a few of inches below my knees (for reference I’m 5’4″) and is full enough for me to fit a 24″ fluffy petticoat underneath. For your stylish convenience, the Donna has an invisible zip up the back (so you don’t dent your ‘do getting it on) and, every girl’s friend, pockets!! The printed pinky-orange and white gingham is just the sweetest and so cute for summer. It is unlined but only the tiniest bit sheer, so I’d recommend a nude-coloured bra and petticoat with it. One thing I noted with the lighter fabric is that Voodoo Vixen’s black labels could be seen through the fabric – I opted to carefully remove them and this was certainly no trouble, but whether you do depends on how noticeable they are to you. The Donna just screamed ‘garden party’ to me and so I paired it with white and cream accessories including my frilly gloves, and I’m itching to wear it in our New Zealand summer with a straw hat! The pastel tones could easily be matched with a whole host of colours – first on my list to try are mint, powder blue, or lilac.
This dress is currently available in sizes S, L and XL (M is sold out), which are standard Voodoo Vixen sizes. I would usually wear a size XS (UK6) but as S (UK8) was the smallest size available that is what I’m wearing in these pictures. For reference, the S measurements on the Voodoo Vixen size chart are 34″-27″ and mine are 32″-24″, but despite the variation I was pleasantly surprised to find it fitted really well. The dress did feel a little loose in the shoulders (due to my lack of bust!) and waist but not enough for me to feel I needed to do alterations, and using a belt to cinch the waist really helped with the extra fabric there.
The Donna dress retails for £44.99 and is available to purchase through the Voodoo Vixen website. They ship throughout the UK and the world, and it’s a very reasonable flat rate of £8.50 to get all the way to New Zealand. And Voodoo Vixen have kindly provided me with an exclusive discount code for you, my readers! You can use the code HERO20 at the checkout for a sweet 20% off any purchases until December.

Thank you so much to Voodoo Vixen for this collaboration, and to @cmjsnz for braving the extreme Nashville heat with me to get these shots. These were taken outside the Gaylord Opryland Resort, though unfortunately we weren’t staying there. And I recommend following Voodoo Vixen on Instagram to keep up with their latest styles!
