Pigtails and Pirates is an Australian brand which began in 2011. Founder Laura Jones started off making children’s clothing and soon expanded into womenswear, drawing inspiration from vintage styling and utilising bold and unique prints. 

If you’ve seen even a week’s worth of my outfits you’ll know I adore a quirky print, which means I sure do love Pigtails and Pirates! Browsing through their website and Instagram feed is a burst of colour and fun, and today I’m featuring one of their many fab prints in the form of their Sunshine on a Rainy Day dress.

The Sunshine on a Rainy Day dress is 100% cotton and features a sweetheart neckline, lined bodice, and full skirt. Because of the way the straps curve in slightly at the front, I opted to wear a strapless bra with the dress, but this is something I often do with summer dresses anyway. The skirt is full enough to take a fluffy petticoat, and at 26″ long it hits me a couple of inches below the knee and accomodates my longer length petticoats perfectly. Overall I have to say that this dress is soooo comfy, and I can tell already that it’s going to be a go-to, especially over summer!

As soon as I saw this fabric, I was swooning! Navy is a staple colour in my wardrobe as it’s so easy to dress up or down, but I especially love all the colours of the umbrellas in the print! There’s blues, pinks, yellow, red, orange and white in there, which means the matching opportunities are endless. I chose to pick out the darker pink, and was super excited to find a matching parasol to fit with the umbrella theme!

Pigtails and Pirates womenswear comes in sizes AU6-18, and currently the Sunshine on a Rainy Day dress is available in all of these sizes. If you would like custom sizing though, Laura will make this happen! I am wearing a size AU4, as my measurements of 80cm(31″) in the bust and 60cm(23.5″) in the waist were slightly smaller than the AU6 measurements on the size chart. Laura was so wonderful to make this dress to my exact measurements which means it fits like a glove!
