Review: Miz Mooz Nico heels from Royal Vintage Shoes

I will admit that I have a rather large shoe collection. A collection that covers most colours and even a wide variety of shades. I will also admit that this is maybe because I have a VERY slight shoe obsession (counselling not required, I swear). However because I have so many already, this means I am always on the hunt for something really different to add to my collection, which led me to try the Miz Mooz Nico heels from  Royal Vintage Shoes.

The Nico heel comes in Cherry and the colour is very true to the pictures on the website. I think my photos have made it look darker than it is but it’s definitely a real orange-red colour. I wasn’t quite sure how to match the colour at first as I have a lot of blue-based reds in my wardrobe, but I ended up pairing the heels with a blouse, necklace and belt in similar shades, and contrasting them with a ‘neutral’ black and white polka dot skirt.

These are my first pair of Miz Mooz shoes so I can’t speak for the rest of their collection, but when it comes to the Nico I can safely say they run very true to size. I am usually a US 6.5 (or a 6 in New Zealand) and these beauties fit me perfectly. The round toe means that there’s no risk of squished toes, and the adjustable T-bar strap holds them in place securely, especially on my narrow feet. I tend to end up walking around much more than I expect and really thrash my heels, so I was really pleased to find that despite the 3.6″ heel that the width of it (and the cushiony insole) mean I can trot around town in comfort. I also love the aesthetic factors like the perforation at the front and the tiny nude scalloping detail around the edges.

The Nico heel is currently available here at Royal Vintage Shoes in sizes 6 to 9. They retail for US$130 which is on the pricier side of heels for me personally, however the superior quality and uniqueness of them makes it worthwhile.

I’m looking forward to seeing which other things in my wardrobe I can match with the Nico heels; next time I might use them as a pop of colour with a navy dress!

      1. Very bad experience with #RoyalVintageShoes. I think the design concepts are great. Delivery is prompt. But the overall execution is not so impressive. The fit is off. The shoes are manufactured in China. The materials are cheap-looking, more like costume than couture. The customer service is terrible, and when I attempted to post constructive comments, they were omitted from the company’s web and blog sites. Companies like ModCloth know better. They retain posted comments, even critical ones, which are helpful to customers. In my own nearly thirty years of experience, I contend that customers must be valued, and products must be excellent. Without the reliability of standard fit, combined with poor product quality, policies that are not competitive and poor customer service, I will not be buying from Royal Vintage Shoes again. I know when I deserve better.

      2. Hi there, it’s really unfortunate that you had a bad experience. I do not work for Royal Vintage Shoes so I would suggest contacting them with your feedback. However I will remind you that they are a distributor for different brands and don’t make the shoes themselves, so if it’s a particular brand you’re concerned with in regards to quality, etc, it might be even better to go straight to them. I have expressed my opinion about quality and my experience honestly, but I know that a lot of small companies really appreciate the constructive criticism too (and unfortunately things do go wrong sometimes!) so I can only suggest trying again as there might have been a glitch with their website or communication channels. All the best.
